Talking to Calvin about the 2009 festival, some things have come up. The main thing is the line-up will be a bit changed up.
One of the things we've had to contend with is the fallout from a letter that was sent to the Northern Lights Casino, as well as Sharon Widmer, the organizer for the Taste Louisiana festival in Amana IA, www.cajunfest.net. Well, the letter was very critical of both festivals, for the music, dance instruction, etc. We all new, meaning the people I've talked to (Calvin, Al Berard, Sharon) knew the criticism was over the top, and actually rediculous. The person that wrote it actually had to confess not even going to the Amana festival, but wrote as though it was first hand. Bottom line, it was a bunch of social polical junk to support her own people to do the festival. Community politics.
Suffice it to say, some things are changing this year. After talking to Calvin, one of the main aspects is the music, changing it up, but I'm not sure what they're tyring to do, but I know (partly from what I've heard in the crowd, and folks I know) I have been pushing bringing up a more traditional zydeco band. They're also working on adding a Cajun culture workshop. And specifically about dance, we might be adding some line dances.
more to come...
Post what you think, what you want to see at this festival.
